Every European countryBy European country, we understand country belonging to the European Economic Space (country of European Union and Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein). has :

a representative appointed by the insurance undertakings covering motor civil liability risks,
an information centre so that the vehicle insurer can be found via the registration number,
a compensation body (the FGAO has been designated in France).

You are entitled to apply to a compensation body in any of the following situations:

no “reasoned” offer or reply presented to you by the responsible party’s insurer within three months of your claim,
no representative designated by the responsible party’s insurer in his/her country of residence,
impossible to identify the responsible party’s vehicle or (within two months of the accident) the insurer

Traffic accidents caused by
a foreign vehicle in France or another country

In the case of a traffic accident caused by a foreign vehicle in France or another country, the Fonds de Garantie may pay you (or a family member) compensation for material prejudice and/or personal injury. Use the menu below to identify the competent body that you should contact according to the location of the accident and the registration number of the vehicle that caused it. In all cases, compensation is paid according to the laws of the country where the accident occurs and is subject to recourse. If the offence occurred outside France, only French citizens are entitled to compensation.

Note: If none of these factors involves France, we will be unable to tell you which competent body should deal with your claim.
